Intel® Extreme Masters returns for the third time to the Bay Area to bring the West Coast its biggest CS:GO event of the year. 12 teams from around the world will travel to Oakland to compete for the prestigious IEM trophy and a share of the US$300,000 prize pool.
The team lineup for the tournament is already looking pretty stacked with Astralis, FaZe Clan, SK Gaming, G2 Esports and Cloud9 having confirmed their presence. We are pleased to announce that joining them will be another home crowd favorite, Team Liquid.
It’s been a long time since Team Liquid has won a tournament yet the team have been showing considerable strength in recent months. No longer a team propelled by international superstars, this fully North American lineup now pack an admirable amount of firepower tied together by NA’s greatest strategic leadership.
With a playoffs finish at ESL Pro League Season 5, a recent best-of-three win against Fnatic, and an Overpass map win against Astralis, the team are starting to show that they are still on the way back to the top. It hasn’t been a simple path to greatness – the team have not reached the Grand Finals of any LAN since ESL One Cologne 2016 – the North American squad are well on their way.
IEM Oakland 2017 will be team Liquid’s third consecutive IEM event in the Bay Area after having competed in Oakland 2016 and San Jose 2015. In San Jose, they finished in the top 4 with a 2-0 win in the quarterfinals against Virtus.pro. In Oakland last year, Liquid barely missed out on the playoffs, having finished 4th in their group.
Can Team Liquid live up to their fans’ expectations and finally come out on top and lift the trophy? They should definitely not be written off, as they’ve shown time and time again that they are capable of defeating team deemed stronger. We’re looking forward to see how they will perform in front of the crowd at the Oracle Arena this year!
If you want to watch the world’s top CS:GO teams with us in the Oracle Arena be sure to secure yourself a ticket today! And don’t forget to follow IEM on both Twitter and Facebook for further tournament updates.
